Ryan Hamel

Close-up of man with a beard wearing a blue dress shirt. Leaves and greenery in background.

Ryan Hamel is a Certified Energy Manager (certificate #15745) and Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (certificate #4913) through the Association of Energy Engineers and a licensed Professional Engineer (State of Kansas, #24799). Hamel received his degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering in 2007 and has conducted energy audits since 2008.

Known nicknames: RJ, Hammer, M'Lord

With K-State: Officially started in 2007 (but also did a stint in environmental consulting for a couple years before coming back to Engineering Extension)

Favorite part of the job: There always seems to be something new to learn or a creative project to tackle.

Go-to energy savings moves: I sleep in the basement during the summer. It's always several degrees cooler down there, so I don't have to use my AC as much. Bonus: the dogs are very happy with this arrangement.

Hobbies: House projects, hiking, gardening, walking the dogs, managing Thomas Edison the Cat's chaos

Favorite food/drink: Hmm... I really enjoy a good tofu scramble or breakfast burrito.
